Features of Design Students’ Meaning and Meaning-Making Formation

Abstract:

The article deals with the concepts «meaning», «meaning-making» that are significant in the general theory of personality development and provides various viewpoints of scientists on this issue. It proves the necessity to study meaning making features in vocational education and training. Particular attention is paid to the specificity of design activities that require creative thinking, one of the main professional qualities. The semantic features of Design students are explored with the aid of the figural test by E. Torrens aimed at diagnosing students’ level of creativity and creative thinking. The author provides the results of the study and concludes that creative individuals capable to realize personal meaning by means of the world around them are originally endowed with creativity.
