Deconstruction of Steve Jobs speech “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish”

Abstract:

The deconstruction of Steve Jobs‘ speech called „Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish“ at Stanford commencement (19.11.2016) is made with the help of discourse technology «Smart Tuning». The method of deconstruction is chosen because it allows us to reveal separate parts as details behind an integral discourse as a mechanism. The study of separate figures of speech, lexical and stylistic constructions, speech patterns, discourse strategies, which construct linguocognitive mechanism of inspiration, provides understanding the attraction effect as a key parameter of discourse tuning. The discourse analysis enabled to reveal the linguocognitive mechanisms which conribute to addressee‘ inspiration. They are inspiration, personification, imaginering. Deconstruction of this speech allows us to specify and broaden the toolkit of successful public speaking technologies and make conclusions about the causes of attraction of businessman image as a good speaker. Discourse analysis helped to describe discourse smart power effect and linguocognitive mechanisms to inspire an addressee and motivate him/her to act.
