Abstract:

The problem of increasing students’ academic and career motivation is pressing in modern higher education. Due to transition of higher education to a competence-based approach it is important to build the educational process in such a way that professional competencies are formed already during study. How to optimally correlate the student’s interest in the future profession with educational activities? Without a global study of students’ academic and career motivation it is difficult to answer this question. The article is devoted to the study of students’ academic and career motivation. The subject of the research is the features of academic and career motivation of students of engineering education and that in the humanities. The study was conducted in FSBEI «Irkutsk national research technical University». It involved 50 students. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of academic and career motivation in technical and humanitarian areas of training. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were put forward: to compare academic and career motivation between students of different training areas, to identify specific features for each group and to characterize the motivational sphere of the subjects. The study was conducted using standardized methods and questionnaires. The results showed that really academic and career motivation differs among students in different areas of training. The scientific novelty is that the idea of academic and career motivation of University students is supplemented with some information about the specifics of this motivation, which is typical for students of technical and humanitarian fields of training.
