Digital technologies and the quality of life of the elderly in modern conditions

Abstract:

This article is an analysis of the features of the internetization of older people in modern conditions of digital transformation of society and the definition of qualitative changes and the way of their daily life. The information base of the study consisted of thematic scientific works by Russian and foreign authors (Belarus, Vietnam), statistical information and materials of the Federal State Statistics Service, the territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service for the Irkutsk Region for the period from 2017 to 2021; the results of various sociological studies aimed at studying the peculiarities of Internet practices of older people and their social adaptation to digital transformation, where the leading role is played by digital competencies of the older generation, the formation of which depends on their motivation and activity, and also requires special pedagogical methods and approaches. In general, despite the presence of not only constructive, but also destructive strategies of adaptive behavior of older people, their low share as active Internet users in comparison with young people, digital inequality, techno-ageism and technostress, it is concluded that significant changes in everyday life, satisfaction of a wide range of material, social and spiritual needs and empowerment of the elderly people, as well as a positive impact on their health, relationships, work, leisure, social and political activity, overall life satisfaction.
