Composition and structure of Irkutsk population in the second half of the 19th – early 20th c.: dynamics of social differentiation processes

Abstract:

The article considers the main Irkutsk demographic characteristics in the second half of the 19th – the early 20th c. and changes in the social structure of the population under conditions of capitalist modernization. It clearly places the priority of Irkutsk as the largest Siberian city which became the focus of the transition from traditional forms of life to urban ones at the regional level. The author analyses the dynamics of Irkutsk population, and discusses the main factors of its growth and age-sex composition.
